D-Day Mama Prep – What You Should Pack

Getting ready for your baby’s arrival is both exciting and overwhelming. One of the most important steps is packing your hospital bag—you don’t want to be scrambling at the last minute. Having the right items on hand can make a world of difference to arriving calm and having a comfortable stay.

We’ve put together a detailed list of must-haves, including Bubba Bump’s reusable breast pads and disposable postpartum underwear which are both top comfort items for new mums.

Clothing for You and Bubba

Comfortable clothing is important for both you and your little one.

  • Pack a couple of loose-fitting pyjamas or nightgowns that will allow easy breastfeeding access without fiddly buttons.
  • Hospital rooms can be cold, so bring a cardigan or robe to stay warm.
  • Don’t forget slippers or socks for added comfort when walking around.
  • Pack a few onesies, mittens and a hat for bubba.
  • Hospitals usually provide blankets, but having a personal swaddle can make a baby feel more secure.
  • You’ll want a comfortable going home outfit for both you and bubba. Choose something loose-fitting and easy to put on for yourself, as your body will still be healing.

Toiletries and Personal Care Items

You’ll want to feel as fresh as possible during your stay, so remember your basic toiletries:

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste
  • Hairbrush
  • Deodorant
  • Bringing your favourite shampoo and body wash will make you feel more at home.
  • Many new mums also recommend having a good lip balm on hand, as hospital air can be dry.
  • If you’re planning to breastfeed, don’t forget to pack reusable breast pads to help with leaks and keep you feeling comfortable and dry.

Postpartum Underwear

Postpartum recovery can be a bit messy and that’s where Bubba Bump Disposable Postpartum Underwear comes to the rescue. These super-comfortable, leak-free undies absorb three times more than regular maxi pads and are designed to help you feel secure and stress-free.

They are high-waisted, making them perfect for both vaginal and C-section births and they won’t irritate your C-section incision.

Instead of dealing with awkward pads that can shift and cause leakages, you can rely on these to handle the lochia, incontinence or water breaking.

Nursing Essentials

If you’re planning to breastfeed, a nursing pillow can provide support and make feeding so much more comfortable for both you and your baby.

Also, don’t forget to pack reusable breast pads to avoid leaks and stay comfortable between feedings. Nursing bras and tops with easy access will make the process a breeze.

Pop some nipple cream into your bag as well to help with any initial discomfort.

Comfort Items

Recovering from birth takes time and a few comfort items can make all the difference.

  • Bring 1 small pack of x-large, soft pads for extra protection, even if you’re using disposable postpartum underwear.
  • A peri bottle can be a game-changer for keeping things clean and soothed post-birth.
  • Bubba Bump also offers cooling pads that can provide immense relief if you’re dealing with swelling or discomfort.

These essentials will help you focus on healing and bonding with your new baby.

Tech and Entertainment

Hospital stays can sometimes feel longer than expected and having some entertainment on hand can help pass the time.

Be sure to pack your phone, tablet and charger, as well as some headphones or AirPods.

You may also want to pre-download some audiobooks, podcasts or shows to watch. Bring a notebook and pen to jot down memories, questions for your doctor or even baby name ideas.

Important Documents

You’ll need to bring some paperwork along, too. Make sure you have:

  • Your hospital paperwork
  • ID
  • Insurance information
  • Your birth plan

Having these essentials organised in a folder will save you time and stress when you arrive at the hospital.

Lastly, make sure your baby car seat is installed some weeks before so that you can resolve any hiccups in its installation or use.
